Ma

Ma is a column of bricks individually molded from crushed pumice stone and concrete. It is scaled to the height of my mother, and uses hand-crushed pumice stones, a natural abrasive used in pedicures, as a sculpting medium. Its towering form implicates the beauty service industry as ruthless and oppressive, but its precarity reflects how the system’s standards are simply constructions.
